Of course I know August 1st always comes after July 31st. As sure as the sun rises, it happens every year. But, right on schedule, August and all the month means took me by surprise once again. August means football season and hurricane season. August means the State Fair is next month. And most of all, August means BACK TO SCHOOL. And back to school means back in the swing of homework, schedules, sports and clubs. Back to school means new goals. And good cookies, we have a suggestion for one goal this school year. . .
If you are a student, a teacher or a parent or have neighbors who are students, teachers or parents, why not host a Cookies for Kids’ Cancer bake sale at school this fall? With many great causes to support, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer stands out in schools because, well, the money goes to help school-age kids with all the same hopes and dreams as every other kid but who happen to be battling pediatric cancer.
What could be better than a hands-on service project delivering far more than lip service and community service hours? Aspiring bakers handle cookies, budding artists and marketers create signs and raise awareness, congenial classmates ensure no cookies go unsold. No matter a student’s role in the school, there is a job waiting for them in a Cookies for Kids’ Cancer bake sale.
And is it worth the effort? Well, last fall, several schools across the country held Cookies for Kids’ Cancer bake sales. Some schools raised thousands of dollars while other schools raised hundreds. And do you know what mattered most to us here at Cookies for Kids’ Cancer?Every dollar raised.
Right now in the effort to raise funds for pediatric cancer research, every dollar counts toward getting ready and waiting treatments funded for clinical trials. And clinical trials give kids with cancer better options, better choices and better survival rates.
So don’t let August take you by surprise. Time flies – start planning now. I can’t think of a better time for a bake sale than September – Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. Register your sale today through www.cookiesforkidscancer.org.
