Meet our new Good Cookie friends at generationOn! GenerationOn is helping to mobilize more Cookies for Kids’ Cancer supporters by sharing #GoodCookie stories and inspiring a network of 750,000 kids to make a difference in the world through volunteer service. The generationOn team wrote a guest blog post to share their story.
Here at generationOn, we’re so excited to be teaming up with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer to help spread the word about Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September! We love the 50 State Challenge and strongly encourage folks to register a fundraising event!
For those who may not have heard of generationOn or what we do, we’ve included some information below. We have a lot going on through the end of the year, and we’re excited to fill you in:
What is generationOn?
GenerationOn is the youth and family service division of Points of Light, igniting the power of kids, teens and families to make their mark on the world. GenerationOn inspires, equips and mobilizes over 750,000 kids and teens annually to take action through service, service learning and youth leadership initiatives. It also provides tools and resources to kids, teens, families, youth practitioners and educators to help kids change the world and themselves through service. You can find out more about us at generationOn.org.
Upcoming generationOn campaigns and initiatives
Family Volunteer Day
Family Volunteer Day is a day of service that demonstrates and celebrates the power of families who volunteer together; supporting their neighborhoods, communities and the world. Points of Light created the day 23 years ago to showcase the benefits of family volunteering and to provide opportunities for families to help create supportive environments in their communities.
This year, Family Volunteer Day takes place on November 22. It is managed by generationOn in partnership with our exclusive sponsor, Disney Friends for Change, a global initiative that inspires kids and families to take action to help people, communities and the planet, as well as our HandsOn network affiliate partners across the country.

Joy Maker Campaign
Did you know that twenty-two percent of all children live in families with incomes below the federal poverty level? It can be especially hard for some of these families to afford presents during the holiday season. GenerationOn and Hasbro are challenging students to give back, get involved and spread joy. For each act of service completed from November 24—December 10, Hasbro will donate a toy or game to Toys for Tots.
This year, participating schools will receive a toolkit to assist in the planning and execution of service projects. Schools that share their story of service with a picture will be entered to win prizes, including funds to do more service, a celebrity-attended holiday party, and more!
We’d love for you to join us and participate in Family Volunteer Day, Joy Maker, or both! Find out more about how you can get involved on our website, generationOn.org.
Looking to stay involved over the course of the year?
You can register a generationOn Club and continue to do service for the whole year! GenerationOn Clubs are groups of young people, supported by adults, who work together to do meaningful hands-on service projects locally, nationally, and globally, documenting their impact and sharing their success stories online. Young people can start a Club with friends, at schools, in faith-based and community organizations, or as a Club within an existing youth organization.
The generationOn Clubs program equip parents, educators and young leaders with the tools and resources to implement service projects, share their successes and be recognized for their service. Elementary-age kids can participate in Kids Care Clubs, led by an adult facilitator, while middle and high school-age youth can lead or participate in generationOn Service Clubs, supported by an adult advisor. Registration is free and easy! Learn more at www.generationOn.org/clubs.
